          Early Life and Education

          Louka Katseli was born on April 20, 1952, in Athens, Greece.

          Her parents were renowned theatrical figures: her father, Pelos Katselis, was an actor and director, while her mother, Aleka Katseli, was an actress, choreographer, and director.

          In 1972, Katseli graduated with honors from Smith College with a degree in economics.

          She then earned two master's degrees, in economic policy and international financial management, from Princeton University.

          This series of working papers is intended to disseminate the Development Centre's research findings rapidly among specialists in the field concerned.

          In 1978, she received her Ph.D. from Princeton.

          Academic Career

          From 1977 to 1985, Katseli worked as an assistant and later as a professor at Yale University. In 1980, she received the university's award for outstanding young teacher and a fellowship from the German Marshall Fund (1982-1984).

          She also taught as a visiting professor at the University of
